Pakistan's first Prime Minister was assassinated at Company Bagh, Rawalpindi (now Liaquat Bagh), on 16 October 1951.
Liaquat Ali Khan, known as Quaid-e-Millat, was shot while addressing a public meeting. The assassin, Said Akbar, was killed on the spot, and the full motive has never been established. His last words are reported as 'May God protect Pakistan'.
