Muhammad Ali Jinnah died in Karachi on 11 September 1948 and is buried at the Mazar-e-Quaid.
Jinnah had suffered for years from tuberculosis, which he kept secret from the public. He was flown from Ziarat via Quetta to Karachi and died the same evening, about 13 months after independence. Khawaja Nazimuddin became the next Governor-General.
