No poverty

Goal 1

People

End poverty in all its forms everywhere.

What it means

Poverty means not having enough income or resources for basic needs such as food, shelter, health care and education. Extreme poverty is measured internationally as living on less than about US$3 a day.

Key targets

End extreme poverty, halve poverty by national definitions, and build social protection systems for the poor and vulnerable.

Pakistan and this goal

A large share of Pakistanis live below the poverty line, and floods and inflation have pushed many more into poverty. The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) gives regular cash support to millions of poor women.
