Balochi mystic poet whose love for Sammo became a spiritual legend
Tawakali of the Marri tribe was a herdsman whose deep love for a woman named Sammo transformed him into a wandering mystic, known thereafter as 'Mast' (the intoxicated one).
He travelled widely among Baloch communities and was revered as a saint as well as a poet. His verses were preserved orally by those who heard him.
Love as a spiritual path, the beauty of nature, humility, and criticism of injustice within society.
Mast Tawakali is among the most revered figures of Balochi literature, often compared to the great Sufi poets of Punjab and Sindh.
