Pakistan's largest national park, covering the heart of the Karakoram with K2 and some of the longest glaciers outside the polar regions.
The park covers a vast landscape of giant peaks, glaciers and high valleys, including four of Pakistan's five 8,000-metre peaks. Wildlife includes the snow leopard, Himalayan ibex, markhor and brown bear.
Many villages lie around the park, and their people depend on its pastures and water. Local communities take part in managing tourism and conservation, and many work as porters and guides on expeditions.
Treks to K2 base camp and Concordia start from Askole, passing along the Baltoro Glacier. The park is a world-famous destination for climbers.
