Forested hills on the edge of Islamabad, at the foot of the Himalayas, loved by hikers.
The park covers the Margalla Hills, Rawal Lake and the Shakarparian area, with subtropical pine forests. Wildlife includes barking deer, rhesus monkeys, wild boar and, occasionally, leopards.
Its hiking trails start right from the city's sectors, making it one of the most visited parks in the country. Forest fires in summer are a growing concern.
