The Camp David Accords, which led to peace between Egypt and Israel
Shared with: Menachem Begin (Israel)
After the 1973 war restored Egyptian pride, Sadat made a historic visit to Jerusalem in 1977 and addressed Israel's parliament. Talks at Camp David with Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin, hosted by Jimmy Carter, led to the 1979 peace treaty. Many in the Arab world opposed the deal, and Sadat was assassinated by extremists during a military parade in 1981.
