Leader of the Khilafat Movement; editor of Comrade
An Aligarh and Oxford graduate, he started the English weekly Comrade and the Urdu daily Hamdard. With his brother Shaukat Ali he led the Khilafat Movement and was jailed several times. He attended the first Round Table Conference in London despite illness, saying he would not return to a slave country, and died there; he is buried in Jerusalem.
