Biography

A Calcutta judge and scholar who presented Islam to Western readers. He founded the Central National Mohammedan Association (1877) and the London branch of the Muslim League (1908), which lobbied the British for separate electorates. He was later the first Indian member of the Privy Council's Judicial Committee.
