Founder of pragmatism, semiotics
Peirce argued that the meaning of any concept lies entirely in its practical consequences — what difference it would make, in practice, if the concept were true. He held that truth is not a fixed, static property but what a community of inquirers, following a rigorous method over an indefinitely long investigation, would eventually and permanently agree upon.
American logician, scientist and the founder of pragmatism, whose difficult personality and unconventional career kept him largely outside academic philosophy during his lifetime.
