Peasant revolution, On Contradiction, Chinese Communist Party
Mao adapted Marxism-Leninism to China's largely rural conditions by basing revolution on the peasantry rather than an urban industrial working class, arguing a "people's war" led from the countryside could surround and overwhelm the cities. In On Contradiction, he theorized that social change is driven by the constant resolution and re-emergence of internal contradictions within any system.
Chinese revolutionary leader and founding chairman of the People's Republic of China, who led the Communist Party to power in 1949 after decades of civil war.
