Founder & 1st Sultan, Tughlaq Dynasty (1320–1325)
In office: 1320 – 1325
Ghazi Malik, who took the title Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq, was a frontier governor and general under the Khalji sultans who overthrew the usurper Khusro Khan in 1320 to found the Tughlaq dynasty, the Delhi Sultanate's longest-ruling and, under his successors, most territorially ambitious line.
Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq is remembered mainly as the founder of a dynasty that, under his son Muhammad bin Tughluq, would briefly become the largest and most ambitious of all the Delhi Sultanate's ruling houses.
Died in 1325 in a controversial accident when a specially built pavilion collapsed during a celebration for his son's military return, an event some contemporaries suspected his son Muhammad bin Tughluq of having engineered.
