3rd and last Sultan, Lodi Dynasty (1517–1526)
In office: 1517 – 1526
Ibrahim Lodi succeeded his father Sikandar in 1517, but his harsh, suspicious treatment of the Afghan nobility who had long underpinned Lodi rule provoked rebellions that fatally weakened the Sultanate, including one led by his own uncle and the governor of Punjab, Daulat Khan Lodi.
Ibrahim Lodi's defeat and death at Panipat in 1526 ended the 320-year-old Delhi Sultanate and opened the subcontinent to Babur's Mughal Empire, making him the final ruler of the era that Babur's reign begins.
Killed in battle at the First Battle of Panipat on 21 April 1526, fighting Babur's invading Mughal army; his death ended the Delhi Sultanate and inaugurated Mughal rule in India.
