1st Prime Minister of Pakistan (1947–1951)
In office: 14 August 1947 – 16 October 1951
Liaquat Ali Khan was Jinnah's closest political lieutenant and the Muslim League's General Secretary through the final years of the Pakistan Movement, and became Pakistan's first Prime Minister on independence, effectively running the government's day-to-day affairs while Jinnah held the largely symbolic but paramount role of Governor-General.
Known posthumously as Quaid-e-Millat ("Leader of the Nation"), Liaquat Ali Khan is remembered as the chief architect of Pakistan's earliest state institutions and the Objectives Resolution's foundational role in its constitutional history.
Assassinated by a gunman, Said Akbar, at a public meeting in Rawalpindi on 16 October 1951; the motive was never conclusively established, and he was succeeded by Khawaja Nazimuddin.
