3rd Prime Minister of Pakistan (1953–1955)
In office: 1953 – 1955
Muhammad Ali Bogra was serving as Pakistan's ambassador to the United States when Governor-General Ghulam Muhammad unexpectedly appointed him Prime Minister in 1953 after dismissing Khawaja Nazimuddin, making him a relative outsider to domestic power politics who was widely seen as dependent on the Governor-General's backing.
Bogra's premiership illustrated the extent to which real power in Pakistan's early years rested with the unelected Governor-General rather than with the nominally responsible Prime Minister.
Replaced as Prime Minister in August 1955; later served again as Foreign Minister and ambassador, and died in 1963.
