18th Mughal Emperor (1759–1760)
In office: 10 December 1759 – 10 October 1760
Muhi-ul-Millat, who took the title Shah Jahan III, was a great-grandson of Aurangzeb installed as a puppet emperor by vizier Imad-ul-Mulk after Alamgir II's assassination, and was deposed within less than a year as the political chaos of the late Mughal court continued.
Shah Jahan III's brief, powerless reign is remembered only as one further step in the rapid turnover of puppet emperors that characterized the Mughal court's collapse of authority in the 1750s.
Deposed in October 1760; lived the remainder of his life in confinement, dying in 1772.
