17th Prime Minister of Pakistan (2004–2007)
In office: 2004 – 2007
Shaukat Aziz was a career international banker, formerly a senior Citibank executive, whom President Pervez Musharraf brought in as Finance Minister in 1999 and later installed as Prime Minister in 2004, overseeing a period of strong economic growth closely tied to Musharraf's broader policy agenda.
Shaukat Aziz is remembered primarily for a technocratic, growth-focused economic record during his tenure, closely tied to and ultimately inseparable from Musharraf's broader political fortunes.
Left office at the end of his term in November 2007 as a caretaker government took over ahead of elections; has since lived largely outside Pakistan.
