Adopted at COP21 by 196 parties. Every country, rich or poor, sets its own targets (Nationally Determined Contributions), updated every five years, and rich countries are expected to provide climate finance. The USA withdrew under President Trump, rejoined in 2021 and announced its withdrawal again in 2025.
Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change
Aims to keep global warming well below 2°C, and to try for 1.5°C, above pre-industrial levels; each country sets its own targets (NDCs).
