Background

Pakistan and China agreed the alignment of their roughly 600 km border along the Karakoram watershed; the Shaksgam valley was recognized on China's side. The agreement is provisional until the Kashmir dispute is settled. It opened the way to the Karakoram Highway and, decades later, CPEC.
